The mountain pine beetle ravaged our forests, leaving vast amounts of timber considered unsuitable for anything beyond pellet production. In 2010, owner Klaus Posselt recognized an opportunity in the surplus of pine beetle–killed fibre available on the market. He diversified operations by establishing a canting line to utilize this low-grade timber — material that was largely being burned and contributing to wildfire risk. By developing new domestic and international markets for these products, Pacific Timber was born.
Initially focused on supplying the oil and gas industry with tenoned blocking for rig mats, timbers for pipeline skids, and access mats, the company quickly evolved. As activity in the oilfields slowed, Pacific Timber expanded its focus to export markets. Demand from Asia grew, prompting refinements to the Burns Lake facility to support export production.
In 2014, Sheraton Sawmill was acquired and upgraded to process oversized logs. In 2017, the Houston Corwood plant became operational. Today, Houston Corwood is Pacific Timber’s largest facility, employing approximately 35 people.

Klaus Posselt, a born entrepreneur, immigrated from Germany with his family in the early 1970s as a teenager. After many years of hard work on the family farm, Klaus purchased his first logging truck and began steadily growing his business from the ground up. Around 2012, due in part to dropping lumber prices and rising logging costs, he recognized the need to salvage and utilize waste timber that would otherwise be left in brush piles to be burned. Driven by his resourceful nature and market demand, he purchased, redesigned, and built several small sawmills to do just that.
A graduate of Xi’an Foreign Language College in China, Allen has over 20 years of experience in logistics, sales, and international trading. He joined Pacific Timber in 2018 after working with the company for more than six years through an agency. His bilingual skills and deep knowledge of Chinese culture are a valuable asset to the team and help strengthen important international relationships. Allen immigrated from China to Nanaimo, BC in 2009 and greatly values the strong team atmosphere, collaboration, and trust shared among colleagues at Pacific Timber.
The Houston Division (Corwood) processes a broad log profile, including oversized timber, enhanced by the addition of a butt flare reducer in 2024. Corwood produces a wide range of cants, access mats, chips, and grind. Located 3 km west of Houston, BC, the mill is strategically positioned to access the region’s substantial dry fibre supply.
